Creative Spotlight: Vanessa Power
I worked in web design for about 5-6 years. Then it really felt it was time to change career. I always had an interest in type and did a lot of hand lettering such as drawing out letters, words and phrases in my spare time. So I knew I had to do something type based and thought signage.
I began researching jobs and when I came across sign painting I had that eureka moment of ‘that’s what I want to do!’ – and I haven’t looked back since. I absolutely love it!
It’s the endless possibilities with sign painting I find so intriguing. There’s just so many shade variations, colour ways, techniques and different typestyles. And I guess I try to play with all of these in my personal projects.
There’s a lot of artists and sign painters I admire but sign painter Josh Lukas of Best Dressed Signs in Boston would probably be my biggest inspiration. Seeing his work early on got me really interested in sign painting. His lettering, style and clean lines are incredible. Truly aspirational work.
Vanessa will be one of the guest presenters at the Beck’s Be Kreativ Pecha Kucha evening on Monday February 13th. Tickets are sold out but for more information click here.
