Artist Spotlight – Jess Tobin
You may not recognise the name, but chances are you have seen her work bursting onto the Dublin art scene.
Jess has been surrounded by colour and creativity her whole life. “Ive been drawing and painting since I could and never went anywhere without my art supplies”. Her parents always encouraged their family to let their creativity flow, which clearly rubbed off on Jess and her sisters (one of which is an NCAD Grad and the other is a Makeup Artist).
“It’s quite simple really, I love to draw and be creative so that’s what I do in my free time and what I have always done”. Jess is also an active member of Dublin’s creative groups, including the Blind Elephant Illustration Collective, the Minaw Collective & Evolve Urban Art. “My street art name is Novice because in terms of that medium & scene I’m pretty new, but mainly because as a creative person I believe we have to always be a novice, always learning, always discovering.”
“In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities, but in the expert’s there are few.”
― Shunryu Suzuki.
We asked Jess who inspires her most and she didn’t disappoint. Here are some of her favourite creatives:
“Le Bas is an insanely talented young man with, in my opinion a very progressive way of working and style. We are really blessed in Ireland to have a melting pot of serious talent. The lady Friz is my hero, her skills are amazing on and off walls. I aspire to her control and ability to make what’s on paper look so awesome on a giant wall”.
We’ve compiled a selection of Jess’s incredible creative work, but trust us, there is much more to be seen and Jess is constantly uploading her latest work to her social channels, so make sure to click on the links below and get following.
